I Need To See the Dentist How Often?!
So how often are you really suppose to come see us? The answer is...it depends. Cop out huh, well, let me explain. For a dental exam, we recommend a yearly exam that might be accompanied by digital X-rays. For the majority of our patients, we provide exams during routine dental cleanings because you're in the chair and we might as well make sure nothing has happened since your last visit. By doing this kind of exam recall, we can catch things before they become more painful, more time consuming and more expensive.
The real factor about how often you should see your Dentist depends on your Hygiene recalls. If your gums are very healthy, with no bleeding on probing or bone loss, the recommended visit is every 6 months or twice a year. Plaque and tartar build up occurs pretty rapidly and going longer than 6 months can be very detrimental to ones oral health. If your gums are not as healthy or you have a history of gum disease, than we recommend 3-4 month recalls depending on many factors. These include the color of your gums, your bone level, the depth of the pockets in your gums and other factors.
So how often should you come to see me? It all depends...
And for all those young and/or old parents with new toddlers, we recommend your child's first dental visit when their baby teeth begin to come in or at 1 year, whichever comes first.
